Holiday Nostalgia

Latest challenge from blogthis

In June 2006 we were lucky enough to be invited by a good friend to her employers house in Barbados for a week with 5 other couples! We had a brillant time, the only down side being I was pregnant with little mimoo so could not indulge in any of the sunset cocktail happy hour that seemed to start earlier and earlier each day.(booo!)

It was one of the best holidays ever as you can see it was a stunning house and the extra kick for me is that the entire house was designed and furnished by a famous interior designer called India Hicks, who is one of my idols!

Besides our luxurious surroundings it was such a great holiday as the 5 other couples we went with we had spent the best part of a decade with in London and had spent many other holidays with, so sadly we all knew at the time that this would probably be our last one together for a long time as a few of us ladies were expecting babies and moving back to Australia soon after, one couple were moving to Asia, so it was an end of an era for us all, as we had all gone such great times together and being so far from home we had become like each others family for so many years. It was so lovely to be able to spend our last holiday together in such a beautiful part of the world.

Everyone loves Holidays. Everyone has had a holiday - be it a great big backpacking adventure, a luxury weekend away,a caravan trek as a kid with the family taking in Big Bananas, Big Prawns, Big Pineapples et al, Camping in the neighbours yard under the stars for a few nights. Elaborately planned holidays, impromptu 'let's get out of here' holidays. Blog about a holiday you've had that stands out - adventure, relaxation, family, friends, disaster, hilarious events! Who were you with? Where did you go? What made it so memorable? Share a photo if you want!

I am hooked...

I recently purchased my first issue of Mixtape zine and all I can say is that I am addicted and ordered most the back issues last week (to print out at my mum and dads- thanks pops!). So many great articles and interviews with fellow crafters and lots of projects to aspire to. I highly recommend getting yourself a copy here.

Two weeks today

Is this years first BrisStyle Designers market,so mimoo HQ is hard at work creating goodies for everyone to snap up so if you are in the Brisbane area please drop by and say hi as I always like to put a face to the name. I will also be debuting some new mimoo products solely created for market day which keep things interesting I think!

New boys cot set

I recently updated my etsy and madeit stores with one of my new cot sets, which I have called Zoom Zoom. I love the stripey background and the old fashioned truck and school buses.  I have double stitched a border in red for a bit of extra cuteness, it comes with a matching pillowslip and fitted pale blue sheet. what do you think?

Free book plates anyone???

I came across this link from Three buttons on the weekend and I had to share it with you. Orange you lucky is a really talented Canadian artist so get her free book plates if you are interested as they are super cute.

I remember the days before starting school our family room's pool table (hey it was the late 70's/early 80's) was covered in brown paper to cover our exercise books, my brothers would be fighting over the book labels you used get free out of The Courier Mail newspaper and I would happily sit there for ages choosing which ones to go on which book as being the only girl in our family I had my pick of the girls page!!! My favourite each year without a doubt was Wonder Woman.

mimoo HQ is going green

Yes that is right, we here at mimoo HQ are trying to do our bit for the environment and $$$, so I will keep you posted in the coming weeks on our progress. First up is nappy bags. I actually have been doing this for quite some time but I re-use our plastic bags that hold all our fruit and veg from the supermarket and also the torn hole-y shopping bag ones that I cannot use for garbage get a run too. (I always forget my green bags)

When we first moved home with little mimoo from London my sister in law kindly handed over a shopping bag stuffed full of nappy sacks leftover from her baby days, which took us, I am not kidding, almost 18 months to use them all,so when I went to buy some new ones I just thought to myself how extra bad on the environment these were and to also spend money on plastic scented bags to put in another bag to take home to place (excuse the french) shit in. so ever since I have been using the below.

The 2nd part in getting the following book out of the library.(I am a library addict)

A life without cause is a life without effect- Rev Run

Random acts of kindness

If you could name one small gesture someone else has made that had a big impact on your life, what would it be?

Yet another challenge from the ladies over at blogthis.  My really nice mother in law recently knocked on our back door and after saying a quick hello she handed over an envelope with a substantial amount of cash in it for me to go out and buy an overlocker which I had been hankering after for ages! I could  not believe it and was, of course, thrilled at her act of kindness.

My mother in law works full time and had a very busy social life so is unable to offer much babysitting, which I have always understood and was especially glad that she had a full life with her friends and work after losing her husband not so long ago, so she said she would like to contribute in other ways in helping us out.  I love my new little overlocker and I have been having such fun with (when little mimoo permits!) and I know that it will really help me in the coming months as I have signed on to participate in a few local markets and will make it so much easier to whip up some mimoo goodies.

Favourite photo of yourself tag....

Today I was tagged by Wynona over at Ivy Designs who in turn was tagged by Chantelle from Fat Mum Slim for a fun challange (see details below)

It's really simple. I love how every photo tells a story. Some short stories, some long tales. I want to know what is your favourite photo of yourself. Everyone has one. The photo they look at and smile. It reminds them of something, some time, some place. A moment in time.

So share the photo, share the story and then tag three other people. I want to see photos and stories all around the blogosphere

This is from my wedding day on Noosa main beach. I always smile when I pass this photo in our hallway as we lived in London at the time and coming back to celebrate our wedding with all my brothers and my mum and dad was just a magical time. That is me in the middle in the white dress with one of my lovely bridemaids, Kate in front of me, as she had made a mad dash from the ladies to be in the picture!!! When I returned to London after the wedding I took in some photos to my work and my manager, who, lets just say he makes Adam Lambert from this season of  American Idol look like straight man, in his most camp voice ever exclaimed 'who the 'heck is that diva bridemaid blocking the BRIDE from the photo!!  Everytime my friend Kate comes over I tease her about it,which of course mortifies her...I am laughing as type this!

Sorry about blurry photo but do not know how to use my scanner properly but thought you would all get the gist of it anyway. now I have to tag 3 people

Jacqui from Mee a Bee
Nicole from bit of toffee
Christine from Little Diva

Good luck ladies!

Weekend Wonderful

The lovely Chantelle over at fat mum slim has asked us to share 3 wonderful things that have happened throughout our week.

1. my mother in law bought me a brand new overlocker as she knows how much I have been hankering after one and she believed it would really benefit my mimoo business which she thinks is 'wonderful' ( her words not mine)

2. little mimoo giving me a hug and telling me 'mummy ist so funny'

3.my latest feedback from my etsy store! I always love getting feedback.

i love it! thanks so much for making this. Blanket is so cute Thank you very much

Absolutely gorgeous...and the packaging is cute too!
Thank you!

I could not be happier with this beautiful play mat! Thank you for making something so special & lovely for me to give to a good friend's baby!

My recent etsy purchase what is yours?

I received this in the post a few days ago but have been a bit under the weather for any blog postings but better late than never I always say!!

This is a super cute print by Khiti. check out her store here. I am not very organised so I do not have a frame for it yet but I am going to frame it in a natural blonde wood colour with a white border and it is going to go into our bathroom. The colour is ocre/green and in the middle has cute little saying 'Find a happy place', as I thought it would inspire mr mimoo each morning whilst getting ready to go to work.  He is a financial client adviser for an investment bank so I think he needs all the cheering up in the world at the moment!!!! maybe I should send one to wayne swan...mmmn

What would you invent?

Whoops I am a day late with Challenge 2 from so blog this but thought I would post it anyway! I was trying to think of something other than inventing a system to pick up the dirty clothes in our basket and wash them and put them back in my wardrobe or invent something to vaccum and mop your floors 'bewitched' style but decided to go on a serious note.

My invention is 2 fold , the first one being a electronic device that is placed at the top of the rear view mirror and scans the amount of people that are in a car and if it is overloaded the engine will not start and the second is a device that is placed on every traffic light in australia and it zaps a signal to a speeding car that automatically cuts the power to a cars engine that is speeding!

I hope I have not lost you but my inventions will try and combat the road toll here in Australia. It is truly terrifying the amount of young kids that pile into cars on evenings out and speed through our streets. I was watching the news the other night and they were reporting on yet another high speed crash that killed a young girl who was a overloaded passenger and they reported that over 80% of all road fatalities are between the ages of 17-25 years. That is a very high percentage and a heartbreaking statistic.  Having a family member that was killed in a road accident a long time ago I can speak of the utter devastation that it plays amongst the families of the deceased and I know there is no much education in schools these days about driving safety but it does not seem to be working sadly..... well that would be my invention. I will get off my soap box now.....
