Anyone else out there who run an online business sometimes get to the stage where you feel like you have lost a bit of your mojo??? I think a big part of running any business craft or not is that you have to constantly evolve, update and try new things but sometimes you just run out of steam......

Plus sometimes I feel that the baby and kids market is so oversaturated by SAHM all trying to do their own thing whether it be making things themselves or importing from overseas. It is becoming so hard to compete and make yourself stand out from crowd when you have no knowledge whatsoever of marketing or branding....

If anyone has some advice on how you get past this little hump I would love to hear it.

what do you think of my new mimoo banner? pretty spiffy I think and to attach it to my stall I simply some on some sticky backed velrco directly onto my felt table cloth. Sorry about the dodgy picture as my set up was a bit messy and I had a very ugly mesh door behind me!

I purchased a few treats on the day also below is the cutest little coin purse for my niece's 6th birthday present from Little mary moo and then my mum treated the little mimoo to a much sought after wheresbeckybean bag! This has taken pride of place in little mimoo's play room where her swanky new training bike resides. Her super cute A-Z canvas poster can be found here, little mimoo loves hers!

As you may know she writes a really popular blog called (funnily enough) mamamia. Well in light of the current Winter Olympics being held in Vancouver, Canada I thought I would reflect on my last ski trip.(sniff sniff) These photos were taken in Chamonix, France in February 2006 and this was our last ski trip as little mimoo was born 9 months later - you do the maths.....I dream of the day when I do this again even though I was not particularly good at it!

Last night here at mimoo HQ we lost power in our street just on dinner time. I am ashamed to say that I was immediately gripped with panic at the thought of a long hot night ahead with no TV or internet/computer... but mr mimoo quickly whipped into action and pulled out some camping gear, gas lantern and portable DVD player. calm was restored and all was okay 4 hours later the power came back on...

However it left me thinking all day today as to how much our mimoo family relies on all things electronic and was thinking of a blog I have been reading lately called sunnymummy and a recent post of hers here and I am thinking of doing the same?? mmmmmnnn am I brave enough?

Organ Donor Awareness Week

Sunday kicked off our national Organ Donor Awareness Week here in Oz. check it out here.

A very good friend of mine is a social worker for the renal unit at the RBH and the stories she has recently told me are awful and frustrating. Obviously many problems can be alleviated by receiving organs and all we need to do is either register at medicare or even just discuss your wishes with your family.

I cannot begin to imagine how heartbreaking it must be live each day not knowing how long you have left before your organs fail or worse to be a parent and watch your small child day in, day out suffer and know that there are people out there that could potentially help but due to ignorance and lack of public knowledge the unimaginable could happen. If you just check the donor week page above you can click on the 'myths' and it will clear up any you may have before you elect to donate.

On the other side of this and perhaps a bit more selfish is that in signing up our family to become organ donors which, we at mimoo HQ did months ago, if something happened to one of them I would take great comfort in the fact that their organs has potentially saved 4 or 5 lives and also saved their families having not to say goodbye to someone they loved as well.

I had a lovely Saturday visit to Mathilda's Market over at the new venue of Eagle Farm Racecourse. It was a really nice setting on what was a really muggy day and I picked some nice treats for little mimoo but really they were a treat for myself for a change.(cue violins)

Cutest 70's style beach bag from Miss Haidee, a lovely bright tea towel from Retro Bird, some really 'kawaii' japanese apple deco tape,some gorgeous 100% cotton duvet set from three little trees and last but not least some divine draw liners but I dont remember the name of the stall (my bad!)

I promised myself this year to starting reading again before bed or generally just more reading of books ie not magazines or blogs. I used to love reading and would go through a book a week when I lived in London as it was a lovely distraction whilst riding 'the tube' to work each day. It was a lovely distraction from the soot,filth,smell, yellings of a deranged bible 'reader', booze breath of some young upstart that thinks it is perfectly acceptable to stay out till 3am in your work clothes and just get straight back into the same clothes 3 hours later ready for 'work' oh I could go on....anyone seen that Gywneth Paltrow film Sliding Doors? well she has alot to answer for as in all my 10 years in London I did not spot a train or train station such as the one in that film all lovely and shiny and empty....truly only in the movies that one.... anyway I digress.....

I bought this book ages ago and I started it on the weekend and I am enjoying so far. I like Mia's blog and her style of writing so it is just something light and fun to get me back into the swings of things... I will post about it once finished and I would be happy to send it onto someone else so stay tuned!

Well check out this new blog/site I have come across called The Pioneer Woman. She lives on a cattle ranch, home schools, four kids, takes the most amazing photographs, cooks all her meals from scratch, whilst taking photos of her meals in a really great step by step process which is great for bad cook like moi and she released her own cookbook last year!

I am becoming quietly addicted. I made a soup she posted about here and it was so delicious. I just substituted some of the 'american' ingredients for aussie ones (what the ?? is half and half?? I googled that one!!)

She also has a whole section where you can take any of her high res photos for your own use.

(I hate it when people have narky instructions on their blog for 'using' their pictures but maybe it is just me who doesn't get that!)

And I wonder how I get everything done in a day????

We have just returned from a blissful 5 days away in Melbourne minus little mimoo to watch the Australian Open tennis. This has been our first real trip away from little mimoo since she was born and whilst I missed the little cherub it was lovely to be away with mr mimoo, just the two of us and have lovely dinners, sleep ins, and have uninterrupted baths!

I would not say I am a massive tennis fan but I was lucky enough to visit Wimbledon numerous times during our time in the UK as I really love watching it live, plus it is always a bonus seeing the divine Patrick Rafter in the flesh, so much to my delight he was competing in the 'Legends' games and I had the added bonus of seeing him play doubles against the two woodies! Not to mention he was staying at the same hotel as us so I had the triple bonus of seeing him in the flesh up close, the only minus was he was in the company of his equally gorgeous wife.....ha

my friend Christine has just recently launched a new business of all things cute from Japan mainly the bento lunch boxes and it is called Kawaii for you. (cute name!) Check out her store here.

I have purchased the little bento box with apples on it for little mimoo and it is so cute. Having visited Japan myself in the last 12 months I can tell you these bento boxes are so reasonably priced and great value for money as the quality of the boxes are fantastic as they have the great spongey seals on the edges to prevent any leakages, if you get my drift. nothing worse than leaked strawberry juice in the bottom of your handbag I tell you. (well there are worse things but you know what I mean)

I have been a busy beaver updating (finally!) all my listings online over at etsy and madeit! There doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to keep the items updated properly !! This was one of my new year resolutions to keep everything updated properly as last year I really let the online side of mimoo go , but I am back onto now but I just wish I was a better photographer or at least had a well behaved real life model!!

I forgot to mention that my little mimoo is obsessed with her new Hot Fudge dress that she asks to wear it daily and I always say no it is your special party dress but today I thought what the heck, why save special dresses for just special occasions as I think I should approach every day like it is a special occasion?

Much like that quote of using your good china tea cups and silverware for every day use. why not I say?

My eldest brother married over the new year break and above is a shot of my little mimoo is her very exclusive Hot Fudge dress. The photos are not the greatest as I think my camera had decided it was way too hot to work properly as we all almost melted!! It was a lovely family ocassion regardless though.

Happy New Year ! A bit of a belated one but mimoo HQ had a very busy new year period as we were all struck down by foul gastro bug, then my oldest brother chose to marry his lovely long time girlfriend on the new year weekend which was incidently the most humid day ever and one I have only just recovered from(or maybe it was the free flowing champers?)! It was a lovely break all round and I am ready to get into all things mimoo and blogging, plus I have been having a great time reading everyones' new year resolutions, I never usually make any myself but I think this year I will and use them as visualisations. Will share them tomorrow....

Xmas forgiveness

I hope you all will understand and grant me some xmas and new decade forgiveness in my blogging slacker-ness as the electronic gods were against me for the month of December as not only did my computer pass on but also my darling mimoo decided to mash my digital camera in a tub of playdoh whilst the lens was open and then decided she would be busted with it like that so closed the lens and hid it, with said playdoh drying and make the lens unopenable...the mind of a 2 year old is more sinister than I imagined, THEN my mobile phone decided to pack up...heavens.

plus not to mention a very sick little mimoo having to battle with her birthday celebrations and xmas all in one week, poor little lamb was exhausted from all that present opening and sugar intake...but anywhoos all is restored now and lovely santa/mr mimoo sorted a shiny new above for moi, yeay! I feel very carrie bradshaw-esque.(not)

I hope you all had a very joyous xmas and I for one cannot wait to ring in 2010. what about you?

well sadly my beloved apple imac died a slow painful death and it has taken me a few weeks to accept this tragic news... and until I get a new one sorted and I will be 'sharing' with mr mimoo computer and as I lost all my photos and music I have been left feeling a little naked and not blog worthy.

However in my absence I was awarded a lovely award from Brusselsprouts! Thanks Mrs Brusselsprouts, I will think of my answers today and 7 others to pass it onto.

(ps people go to dick smith and buy a mini hard drive and back up your computer!!! I lost everything but am very lucky that mr mimoo had copy of all the photos on his computer. sadly however all my 'cool' music has been lost-although I think mr mimoo is quite happy about that )

As you know, my love of cute stuff from Japan knows no boundaries so yet again I did a little late night online shopping over at World of Kawaii. With christmas soon to be upon us I bought some little things for my nieces who are stationary and babushka doll crazy. How cute is the little babushka doll key cover??? Have been to Japan just this April I knew the prices roughly of many of the items and unlike alot of japanese things on etsy they are really reasonably priced!!! so check it out

It is funny how manic and exhausting some markets can be but then you realise they go for half a day!! Mathilda's market was once again a successful day for mimoo and it far surpassed my expectations sales wise but as the crowd was a large number I did not get to chat to many customers as it was so frenzied. I thought my table at one stage was going to topple over!! I only got a quick crowd shot because as you can see I was blocked in by market goers. I was glad in the end to have an early set up time as it meant I could get around and say hello to a few friends and meet a few bloggers I follow, which is always great!

I am back out again this weekend over at the Boutique markets (overexposure anyone?) so if you are local come on over and say hi.

I remember when I was little that sometimes my mum would just look at me and know that I had done something wrong and I used think 'how did she know that just be looking at me?' well now I am that mum and when I am approached with the above pose I know something is up! something to do with the unrolling several toilet papers rolls......

plus I just wanted to capture my newest little creations from my recent late night online shopping ! I think they turned out quite cute as I found this pattern at my mums' which was a pattern of shorts that she had made for me when I was this age using only 1/2 yard of fabric. I had a little chuckle when I saw the price of the pattern was 75c!!!

I am tooting the mimoo HQ horn today as I have been working extremely hard on some new sets of jammies for the summer xmas markets. I dont really list that many jammies online as I find they sell best at markets but I will be listing more on my madeit.com.au shop very soon.

These are one of the new sets and some of my new range of boardies I will be selling this xmas so get in quick especially for the red stars as I am almost sold out!!! ps If anyone has some good tips on photographing products please let me know as alot of it is trail and error at the moment!

As you might remember on my recent visit to Japan I met up with Jacqui as she kindly offered to show me around some of Osaka's fabric places. We had a great time (no way long enough) but as my brother lives there I hope it will not be the last time we meet, although she may be too busy for me on my next running her Mee a Bee empire!!

Have you ever had to give anything up that was difficult?

Yes, you guessed it- smoking! I always thought I looked like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's but then I realised I didn't and I would end up like the below..... I smoked for almost 15 glorious years and god how I miss it. I so so loved it and I was very good at it too, if you have never smoked you will never fully understand why it is so hard to kick the habit once and for all.

It isn't just about the physical act of inhaling filthy dangerous chemicals into your body, it is about smoko breaks, comraderie with other smokers at partys and clubs, telling others 'ah you could get hit by a bus tomorrow' excuses, having fun memories of nightclubbing and backpacking/travelling in your youth that you associate with smoking, THAT is the hardest to kick. ( but I am so so so glad I did!)

I follow this blog called Matt, Liz and Madeline. It is a really cute, sad, inspiring, funny, rude blog (yes all those words and more) as the guys who writes it is raising his 17 month old daughter on his own after his wife Liz died a day after Madeline was born read about it here.

He lives in LA and just writes about his daily life and talks about when he gets flashbacks of his time with his wife, nothing too interesting but somehow it is a really compelling blog to read. His blog posts are always really long,with great pictures and lost of swearing as he vents alot of his sadness but mostly I think he is inspiring in the way he has had to just carry on for his baby's sake. He started his blog intially so his family who he does not live close to can read about what he is up to with the baby but now he says it has turned into a story that someday his daughter can read when she is older so she can read about how much he loved her mum and how he coped, which I think is such a great idea as sadly as time does pass he may not be able to remember all the things he would like his daughter to know her mum. Plus he has started a foundation in his wife's memory to raise money for people in the same situation who are not able to support themselves like he was. ahhhhh.

Matt is so popular now as he has been on some talk shows in the US and is turning his blog into a book about dealing with his grief. He has just quit his job to become a writer full time and travel to India with his little girl for a while so I wish him all the luck! Check out his blog next time you have a cuppa tea.

mimoo rules the world

One thing I would do if I ruled the world, I would make it mandatory for every person on this planet to sign and carry a card to become a organ donor. Everyone here at mimoo HQ has just signed up and received our donor cards which can be done all through medicare or online.

Recently a couple who are friends of ours, he is an A&E surgeon and she is an ICU nurse recounted some really heartbreaking and frustrating stories. She looks after some patients who are in the final stages of organ failure after being on transplant waiting lists for years and he who sadly loses patients on his operating table is unable to 'pass on' organs to save another life because people are not registering to become donors.

On the other side of this and perhaps a bit more selfish is that in signing up our family to become organ donors, if something happened to one of them I would take great comfort in the fact that their organs has potentially saved 4 or 5 lives and also saved their families having not to say goodbye to someone they loved as well.

This blog I have been following for a while is hilarious. Emersonmade is this ladys' shop who makes the most gorgeous flower pins ever. I think her blog in hilarious as she takes pictures of her creations in the most interesting of settings, one day it will be a picture of her in field in her wedding dress, one day it will be in quaint old train station with her hubbie as a model also, the next it will her passed out drunk on the floor,just really funny. I thought rather than list something I want I would share a special gift story as I really do not need or want for anything as I am just so grateful for having such a nice life when others have so little or have it much worse than me.

So for those who are regular readers will know that I spent a long time over in the UK and I cannot tell you how much I miss the above beauty products, Jo Malone and Molton Brown London. I used to work for an investment bank in the city area of London and I was lucky enough work in a building opposite these gorgeous flagship stores and whenever I was having a bad day (which was often) I would stroll across in my lunch break and purchase a little treat for myself, which many a time I would have to store in my desk drawer for weeks at a time so not to rouse an angry response from hubbie as our bathroom was already filled to the brim with the above!!

Well when we got married back here in Australia in 2003 and we had to return to the UK for our work we wanted somewhere to honeymoon halfway between here and London so we settled on Mauritius (hard choice I know!) and we stayed at a divine place called Le Tousserok and had a suite right on the water. Every day at some stage the new hubbie would present me with a gift box to open and I received some lovely goodies from these stores and assorted others for all of the 10 days we were away! One of the treats was a Jo Malone mini candle box set and I have used all of them except for one which I said I plan to burn on some special wedding anniversary.

Anyway I know for a fact he got this idea off someone at his work at the time which doesn't matter as it is the special things he bought me that count! Ha

My heart melts everytime I think of this story and the little cards he wrote to me to accompany the gifts as lord knows I do not receive any such gifts these days, ahh you gotta love the honeymoon stage.

I recently came across this tutorial on how to make a little box pouch purse. mine did not turn out as nice as this one but thought I would share it with you as it is by far the easiest tutorial I have come across on how to make a purse with a zip, plus it is a good way to use some of your old favourite fabrics pieces I think! check it out here.

I have ordered mine this week so I can barely contain my excitement as I love this little magazine so much so that I ordered some of the back copies in the PDF version and snuck over to my mum and dad's place to print them out!! God will I ever outgrow trying to sneak things out of my mum and dad. I still ask my dad for $5 bucks nearly everytime I see him saying I have no change on me and I have to stop on the way home to get some milk for little mimoo, when I usually end up spending the money on that weeks Grazia magazine....dont worry not one of my family ever reads this.

While I am on hiatus from all things online mimoo at the moment I have been trying to get stuck into some house projects seeing as we moved into our new house last September and I have barely done a thing to it since. We have a great playroom for mimoo in QLD we call it a sleepout, which is like an enclosed deck, that runs along the entire side of our house so it is quite long and narrow. I have come across some great ideas online recently, but my favourites are above.

I have recently embarked on a new fitness regime and I had another weights session at the gym this morning and I have felt sick all day! plus I can barely type now due to aching arms.

I have recently started following another blogger MamaKat who has recently lost over 25 kgs and still going, way to go I say !! but she has inspired me to get off my backside and do something about it too as she has 3 small children to look after,works the family budget in an extremely impressive way down the last cent, cooks, follow the weight watchers program and still fits in a heck of alot of exercise each week, so really I have no excuse! Anyone else out there embarking on a new fitness program or give me some tips how you work exercise into your day??

I recently purchased some Paintsticks from some lovely ladies at the July Mathilda's market in Brisbane and I just had to blog about them! They come in sets of 5 and are simply fantastic! They really are no mess and as you have to squeeze the paint out of them there is virtually no waste of paint (except when little mimoo decides to paint the walls,doors or her tummy whilst I nip out of the room!) you can also buy them online here and whilst $20 maybe seem a bit exxy (my mum thought so not me) the extra kicker is that they are re-fillable as you simply rinse them out when empty and refill with any colour you want. You dont waste any paint or have to wash out the leftovers down the sink (very un-eco).

This is my Nana and me at one of my brothers weddings way way wayyyyy back in 1994

(OMG check the eyebrows and do not get me started on the matching pearl set.....good lord!)

I just really love this photo as it was such a happy day for our family as my nan got sick soon after and managed to struggle on with cancer for another 6 years before she passed way when sadly I was overseas and did not get to say goodbye in person.

I loved my nan as she was such a big influence on me and my brothers life growing up. It was my nana that taught me to love all things craft and sewing and showed me that you can 'mend and make do' with all things in life, which I like to think I am carrying on with my little mimoo to this day.

She loved watching the cricket, the Broncos and was a mad keen bowler (Ladies President of Bardon Bowls Club 3 years running- unprecedented!) and was just an all round good decent person which I also like to think I am carrying on and will pass onto my little mimoo one day.

She always used to say that 'you can have all the manners in the world, good grades, good at sports,be a good catholic (?!), but if you are not a decent kind person to others you will not get very far in life'......

The latest challenge from blogthis. I have not done one in a while due to market busy bee-ness so here goes..

Due to little mimoo still getting into everything I have just 2 books on my bedside table, as pre baby years I used to keep everything but the kitchen sink on my bedside table so now I am very minimal (bedside table and everywhere else in the house for that matter!)

Summer at Tiffany by Marjorie Hart

I have blogged about this book before but it has pride of place on my table as I just adore it and it is also the kind of book where you can just read a chapter here and there. It is a real story also of one young woman who moved to New York City one university summer during the second world war. Marjorie and a girlfriend were the first women to be given a job on the floor at the prestigious Tiffany & Co on Fifth Avenue due the shortage of male sales assistants being away at war. It is a great story of times gone by and a must read for those who love all things vintage and old worldly (is this a real word?).

I have been very lazy this time around and have only gotten around to unpacking all my wares from Sundays' Boutique markets. Unfortunately it was not the greatest day sales wise as it was not a huge crowd but hopefully it will grow in the future and the people of Brisbane will support some home grown talent.

One nice lady who bought some of the mimoo jammies range said she would in the future only buy gifts for her friends having babies from markets and handmade online stores rather than shopping centres so as to support local people! Isn't that nice? I told her to tell all her friends to do the same as all we need is for one person to tell another person...... sadly a not so nice person stole one of my jammie tops! unbelievable! I just dont see how it would happen as the tops and bottoms are pinned together, but I guess there are some crafty types out there and I dont mean crafty in a good crafty way either!

Besides who would steal a babies size 1 top from mimoo and then pass it onto another a child- talk about bad baby karma.

Sorry not the greatest photo but this is our new member to mimoo market days! Sadly one of the members from our BrisStyle group Tees2Knees is unable to continue with her stay at home mum run business due to a move overseas with her young family in the next few months and she was selling up all her stock and I cheekily asked if she was willing to sell me her lovely little mannequin and she agreed! It is in perfect condition and I certainly hope this will help me to show off some of the new mimoo summer creations in the months to come. (currently modelling the winter stock!) Let me know if anyone has any suggestions as to what to call my new staff member, little mimoo exclaimed when she she saw it ' oh its a sister' ummm no love.

ps Also get in quick to snap up the last of tees2knees creations as I bought the lady bug for little mimoo last summer and it was a huge hit and really really well made. Good luck Sherilyn!

now that I am embracing all things mother and housewife (mr mimoo is wondering how long it will last? the housewife) but I have started reading my household tips book again after being very impressed with some previous tips that have worked recently, I am keen to continue

Q:How to remove lipstick/crayon marks from walls after little mimoo/picasso drew all over the living room wall??

A: You sponge some glycerine onto paper towel/old rag and gently rub said stain from inside out and it instantly comes off! how good is that? You can find a small bottle of glycerin in the first aid section of the supermarkets and is super cheap.

Q2: How do you disinfect, clean and remove smell of child's vomit from bedroom floor?

A2: After wiping all 'debris' from floor, you boil some water and add a few teaspoons of tea tree oil to a bucket and mop the floors as normal, not only will the tea tree oil disinfect and but removes all foul smell from bedroom.

Sorry for lack of posts this week but little mimoo and I have been having such fun (think she is sick of the sight of me!)and I have trying to do a few home projects,trying to get the house organised and trying to install some sort of routine for mimoo HQ to go forward. (Note the use of the work trying!!)

Thanks to all the fellow bloggers who left me some nice comments as I love getting comments.

Mimoo HQ will be heading off next weekend to the Boutique monthly markets so if you are in Brisbane please come and say hi. I really enjoyed the last market we did because as a stall holder you get a 3m X 3m space and you can decorate however you like, just like your own little (um) boutique I guess is the word, so mimoo is trying to think of some cute and different ways to decorate the stall for this weekend. I will promise to take photos this time!

Stepping back or stepping out????

We here at mimoo HQ have decided to close our Etsy and madeit stores for a wee while to concentrate on this

As I am sure some of you will agree with me, running an online business where you are the designer and manufacturer etc, it is unbelievably time/life consuming and I am feeling that it is taking over my life and that of little mimoo.

I love being a stay at home mum but lately there has been alot of babysitting being done by the live in nanny called Foxtel,which is something I vowed I would never do. As Naomi over at Thula Thula recently posted about, finding time to balance everything out is proving difficult for me too, due to little mimoo having extremely erratic sleep times. I just dont know how everyone does it and I only have one child! Since I started mimoo on etsy times have moved just so quickly, with facebook, twitter, blogging all requiring daily updates on top of just the general day to day housekeeping with your online stores.

I just think I need to take some time out to recharge, do some exercise, have lunch out occasionally with mr mimoo and some friends when I am baby free and not madly rushing around running mimoo errrands, but more importantly taking time to enjoy my scrumptious little mimoo as many people tell me in a blink of an eye she will be off to school and will be refusing to hold my hand...kill me now....

I would be interested in hearing how other people do it???? I will still be blogging almost daily but just with new interesting topics as I have a few new projects on the boil..... and before you ask no, I am not pregnant and I will still be doing the monthly Boutique Markets over at portside and joining the lovely ladies of BrisStyle for upcoming events just not the online stuff for a couple of months.

sorry epic post is now over I just wanted to put this in writing more for myself to re-read back on in the weeks to come when I get twitchy fingers!

New treat for mimoo HQ

After doing 3 market weekends back to back I decided it was time to treat mimoo HQ to the above book!

Meet Me at Mike's craft project book I cannot tell you how cute it is and every page is just divine... I have been hankering after this book for a while but at just under $50 it was definately on the wish/treat list, but I can say it is worth every cent as the projects are just endless and perfectly described, My first project is a pair of cute baby shoes, so I will let you know how it goes.....
